Recipe: The Best Apple Crumble I’ve Ever Had
This recipe’s from my friend Brooke, who makes it exactly like the original. Our friends beg Brooke to make this, and I get why - it’s perfect. I don’t even love oats and still went back for seconds.
When I make it, I skip the oats and use whatever cheap, organic apples Trader Joe’s has. This recipe is easy, cozy, and light enough to enjoy with a coffee or tea - whether you’re binge-watching alone or spending time with friends.
What You’ll Need (Links Included):
Ingredients:
Spiced Apples
6 golden delicious apples, peeled and chopped
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
¾ tsp ground cinnamon
1½ tsp lemon juice
Crumble Topping
1 cup light brown sugar
¾ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup old fashioned oats (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of kosher salt
½ cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes
Directions:
Set: Preheat your oven at 350°F.
Apples: In a mixing bowl, toss chopped apples with sugar, ¾ tsp cinnamon, and lemon juice. Pour into a buttered 8x8 baking dish.
Crisp Topping: In another bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and oats (if using). Add cold butter cubes and cut them in using a pastry cutter, two forks, or your hands until crumbly.
Assemble: Evenly sprinkle topping over the apples and gently press down.
Bake: Bake at 350°F for 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
Serve: Let cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
